Common sense dictates the school board shouldn’t waste taxpayer money on programs that don’t have community support. Let’s stop doing those things. Sustainable changes to the wages and benefits of the entire paid staff must occur. With the teacher’s union contract expiring June of 2012, the vehicle for positive change is the negotiations. The next Strongsville School Board must be committed to delivering “more from less”. The entire school district must be committed to live within our means.
Richard Micko :
The renewal, over 10% of our budget, is vital to our schools. The question raised by voters has been the change to a permanent levy, to save on election expenses. However, taxpayers may want to decide if the renewal has been “earned” each time. I can appreciate both views. Every levy vote has two parts: one is the need for the money. Secondly, does the voter approve of the plan and direction of our schools. I will be committed to earning the taxpayer’s dollars and the voter’s trust every time.

I offer a plan (available via my website: gregscottforschoolboard.com) in which I propose we streamline the bureaucracy of the district to save money while looking creatively to find new revenue sources that are not new taxes. One idea I propose is the privatization of high school cafeteria services; turning the high school cafeteria into a food court setting, giving the district needed revenue and the staff and students better quality food and a choice.
Greg Scott :
I fully support this renewal, it is absolutely necessary for the future sustainability of the district. When elected I will champion ways for the district to become more fiscally sustainable, but we need the financial flexibility and security of this levy. I do not support additional levies until we have exhausted other ways to lower costs and raise revenue. As a graduate of this district I can say, it is vitally important we keep the programs we currently offer, this renewal does that.
