I am not against school choice. However, I believe before we put all our efforts in establishing more charter schools, vouchers for private schools and/or the opportunity to go to another public school. Why don’t we fix the problems, issues and concerns facing the existing public schools.

With Education my top priority, I will research these particular areas to see what funding mechanisms make sense, no matter the community. Clearly, some districts need more funding than others, but there has to be a balance so school districts have the necessary funding for facilities (no learning in a 100+ old building where heating and cooling is compromised); or the disadvantage of not having 21st Century learning tools; or adequate staffing and programming. If materials are the same, why does one district out perform another? These are serious issues needing serious attention.

This is a major issue needing discussion. After all the flooding that occurred in Paterson this year(my home town) and the devastation that has taken place. It’s important to me to look at any plans that will curb over development in areas that send flood stage waters downstream. When this takes place, many homes are damaged beyond the owners ability to repair and most of them, have no hope of being able to rebuild, restore or adequately clean-up their homes, because they don’t have the financial resources. There has to be another way, we must work together to find a solution, so all benefit

It’s important that all children have the opportunity to thrive and not be sick from the environment they live in. I haven’t had the opportunity to read all of Governor Christie’s Energy Master Plan, but I do know a cleaner State makes a healthier State. There are many children in Paterson who suffer from asthma; I believe the environment contributes to this. Sometimes we must take an active approach that may not be popular, but is in the best interest of all residents. Looking at where we are now and where we could be with an aggressive clean energy plan needs further discussion and research

I will be the first to tell you, I don’t want additional tax increases than the next person; however, we must smartly approach how we fund it. The Federal government has raised gas prices and we had to go along with it. NJ has one of the lowest gas taxes in the US. Maybe we put the numbers together; see if it would benefit NJ, if we raised it 1 cent or even 5 cents. NJ is a major thoroughfare to NY, CT, & PA. And if you have been on the Turnpike, where the line for gas is about 20 minutes, mostly out-of-towners, this may be one of the solutions needed, to curb bonding and/or borrowing.

Property Tax Relief will come when we take a serious look at how we fund Education. The Millionaires Tax was a step in the right direction. Or, maybe we look at putting Education on Income Tax, and then everybody would pay their fair share. I also think researching how other states handle this issue, may give us some insight. One state may have part of a plan that works and another state something else, but the combination of several states may be a solution to our problem. It didn't happen overnight and won’t be fixed overnight, but we must work together to get the people the relief they need

TRANSPARENCY - People are skeptical of things they're unsure of. People want someone in office they believe has the best interest of the average person in mind when making decisions on public policy. ACCESSIBILITY - Having access to the elected (open door policy) and information that effects their community or their livelihood will help turn around some of the negative perception people have.
