Paul Lund Jr.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent
Paul Lund Jr.:
I want to bring fiscal responsibility, job growth, and innovation to the way Trenton operates. I believe the best way to accomplish these goals is to eliminate government waste, create a friendly business climate, and foster innovation in areas such as education.
Paul Lund Jr.:
As a product of Woodbridge public schools and now a teacher in a private Catholic high school I believe that I have a unique perspective on education reform. I strongly support education reform efforts such as the Fair School Funding Act, the Parental Rights Program Act, and the Opportunity Scholarship Act.
Paul Lund Jr.:
I support changes to the school funding formula including the following legislation: the Fair School Funding Act which requires the state to provide an equal amount of school aid for every student, the Parental Rights Program Act which will allow school funding to follow children to a school chosen by their parents not determined by their zip-code, and the Opportunity Scholarship Act which will allow business to sponsor scholarships for students to leave failing school districts.
Paul Lund Jr.:
I believe that a municipal governing board and its planning board, through its municipal master plans, should be able to decide the type and amount of growth that is appropriate for that municipality.
Paul Lund Jr.:
I support the the 2011 draft Energy Master Plan, which advocates the use of renewable energy such as solar and offshore wind, promotion of energy efficiency and energy conservation projects, expansion of in-State electricity sources, and construction of an additional nuclear power plant. All of these recommendations will translate into jobs and reduced electric rates.
Paul Lund Jr.:
The best way to address the underfunded Transportation Trust Fund is by cutting costs, this includes cutting bureaucratic waste and partial privatization of services. An audit similar to the one that revealed inefficiencies at the Port Authority of NY and NJ would certainly yield savings. We cannot solve this crisis by raising gas taxes, New Jersey taxpayers simply cannot afford it.
Paul Lund Jr.:
Property tax relief for New Jersey’s struggling families is of the utmost importance and municipalities should be doing everything to reduce costs. Ideas such as property tax caps, education funding reform, and consolidation of services are key to lowering property taxes and should be supported by the New Jersey Legislature.
Paul Lund Jr.:
I believe that to many political figures have come to see political service as a career and are therefore more concerned with reelection that the best interests of the people they serve. I believe an infusion of new ideas would go a long way to improve public discourse in New Jersey

My top three priorities if elected are:
1) To ensure the Federal health reform law is implemented the right way - where consumer interests are kept paramount.
2) To support initiatives that will put people back to work in jobs that pay them well enough to afford to live in New Jersey without the assistance of taxpayer funded programs.
3) To protect the interests of the working middle class.

The 19th District is fortunate to have terrific public schools and talented teachers. I believe in our obligation to provide every child a thorough, quality education. When our existing public school funding formula has yet to be fully funded, it is difficult for me to support any additional redirection of public school funding to support charter and private schools. I respect charter and private schools and the work they do to educate our children, however I remain focused on fully funded our public schools under the laws already passed.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
I will work to make sure the existing school funding formula is fully funded so that school districts in both suburban and rural areas receive their fair share of State dollars.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
Regional Planning Initiatives serve an important role in preserving open space. I support a multifaceted approach to prevent sprawl, which includes funding to purchase and permanently protect open space while also providing funding to create incentives to redevelop brownfields and rejuvenate previously developed areas.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
I do not support Governor Christie's efforts to roll back environmental protections previously established in New Jersey as part of our energy master plan. New Jersey should be a leader in developing renewable energy.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
An investment in New Jersey's transportation infrastructure is an investment in New Jersey. Dedicating tax payer dollars to make the capital investments needed in our State will create jobs that will contribute to the overall recovery of our State's economy. We must aggressively pursue Federal funding to offset state costs, develop a master plan to fix existing infrastructure problems, and plan for the future. Our location between NY and PA makes maintaining the integrity and improving the system, including mass transit, critically important to businesses and commuters alike.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
Property tax relief remains a critical issue. Encouraging shared services and in some ways mergers will help to achieve new levels of efficiency for both municipalities and schools. Fully funding the existing school funding formula will also help provide property tax relief to many tax payers. Until more permanent solutions are found, it is imperative for the State to continue to provide municipal aid as well as property tax rebates.
WINNER: Joseph Vitale - Incumbent:
As elected officials we should strive to conduct ourselves in such a way that while may be passionate is at the same time thoughtful and respectful. Respecting the opinions and ideas of others while setting partisan politics aside will improve public discourse in New Jersey, allowing real solutions to make their way through the gridlock. Public interest groups that set the stage for a dialogue between elected officials and the public about issues of importance also play an important role in opening the discussion.
