Biographical Information
The 2009 General Assembly has received significant criticism for failing to resolve critical issues of the state. If elected, what will you do to ensure better success in 2010 and future legislative sessions?
How will you engage voters in your district in identifying issues that are important to them, and how will you ensure progress is made on these issues?
If elected, what would be your top policy priorities and how would you work to achieve results?
Buddy Carter:
Over the past five years that I have had the honor and privilege of serving in the House of Representatives, we have passed Tort reform, some of the toughest sexual predator laws in the nation, revised antiquated CON laws, frozen property taxes and balanced our budget during some of the toughest economic times seen by most Georgians. While I feel we have made significan progress during this time, we still have much work to do. Among our most pressing issues are TAXES, TRANSPORTATION, TEACHING (education), TRAUMA, AND THRIST (water). I will continue to work on these issues in the Senate.
Buddy Carter:
For the past 5 years that I have served in the House, I have sent a survey to each voter in my district asking their opinion on issues important to them. This gives them the opportunity to educate me on issues of importance to them and lets me know what I should be working on. I intend to continue this practice in the future.
Buddy Carter:
I have a T platform
TAXES- I have never voted for a tax increase.
TRANSPORTATION- I will continue to push for better transportation in our state through state wide and regional planning
TEACHING- Education and transportation are paramont to sucessful economic development. I will continue to work to improve our schools and maintain and increase funding. (Education accounts for 53% of our $18+ billion budget and our teachers are the highest paid in the southeast and among the highest paid in the nation)
TRAUMA- On Febuary 7, 2008, in my hometown of Port Wentworth, GA, we experienced one of the worst industrial accidents in our state's history. We lost 14 lives that night and had we not had a level 1 trauma center at Memorial University we would have lost more. We must have a DEDICATED funding source for trauma in our state.
THIRST- Water is one of the most critical issues our state is facing. We must find a resolution to the tri-state battle or Atlanta and GA will dry up
